REASON FOR
ALERT : This import alert issued May 29, 1986 after Detroit district
reported detaining three shipments of dried apricot paste due
to filth. All shipments revealed whole insects (as many as 48
in one sub), insect fragments, rat/mouse hair, mites, ants,
and moth larvae. Two of the shipments were from Syria and the
                  third from Lebanon.

In FY 92, 10 of 20 shipments of dried apricots/apricot paste
analyzed were detained due to filth. Detentions were noted
for manufacturers in the countries of Syria, Turkey and
                  Lebanon.

INSTRUCTIONS : Surveillance of dried apricots and apricot paste from all
