Comet Wild 2's Heart

Comet Wild 2's Heart
Date: 01.02.2004
NASA's Stardust spacecraft captured this image of comet Wild 2's nucleus as it flew past on Jan. 2, 2004.

It is one of the clearest images of a comet nucleus ever taken. The image on the right shows bright jets of dust and gas erupting from the nucleus, which is roughly 5.5 km (3.5 miles) in diameter.
