Passes and Permits

Recreation Passes

Photo: Northwest Forest PassA Recreation Pass is a pass for the use of many improved trailheads, picnic areas, boat launches and interpretive sites on National Forests throughout Oregon and Washington.

Recreation Pass Required signs are posted at participating sites. These Forest Service sites in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area require a recreation pass: click here.

Revenues from pass sales go directly to maintaining and improving the trails, land and facilities you own and enjoy.

Special Use Permits

If you are interested in holding a special event, you will need a Special Use Permit. Please email our Special Use Permit Coordinator for more information.

Commercial Photography and Filming

The Forest Service permits commercial filming on public lands. Like other commercial uses of National Forest lands and resources, commercial filming requires a Special Use Permit issued by the Area Manager.

All motion picture and video filming using crews, special equipment, and vehicles require a Special Use Permit.

Commercial still photography requires a Special Use Permit only for:

  • Unusual photographic activities that may adversely affect National Forest System lands or disrupt Forest visitors and Forest Service management activities.

  • Pictures that will be offered for sale.

  • Pictures that feature a commercial product for sale with National Forest System lands used for background.
