text version of chart

The CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), a scientific committee of experts outside of government, makes recommendations to the CDC. The CDC decides whether to accept them and publishes them in its Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report as ACIP recommendations.

This schedule indicates the recommended ages for routine administration of currently licensed childhood vaccines for children through 18 years of age. Bars indicate ranges of recommended ages for immunization. Any dose not given at the recommended age should be given as a "catch up" immunization at a subsequent visit when indicated and feasible.

Additional vaccines may be licensed and recommended during the year. In addition to this chart, there are specific recommendations about vaccine administration, such as precautions for certain populations and which vaccines are recommended for use in certain states.
