Here is the latest on what is happening in the Sierra National Forest
Weather Change predicted for the weekend of October 3-4
The Sierra National Forest has been alerted to a significant weather change forecast to take place in the Sierra
Nevada beginning Friday into Saturday. This change may bring early snow storms above 8,000 feet in the
Sierra Nevada. Visitors to the Sierra National Forest are reminded to prepare for winter storms, have adequate
warm clothing, additional food, medical supplies and carry tire chains. Most important, please notify someone
of your trip plans, destination and when you are expected to return home.
The following campgrounds are closed for the season:
- Lower Billy Creek Campground at Huntington Lake
- Dorabelle Campground at Shaver Lake
Beginning October 1st the following campgrounds are open with no services, no fee charged:
- Jackass Meadow
- Mono Creek
- Mono Hot Springs
- Portal Forebay
- Vermillion
- Saw Mill Flat
- Ward
Lake
Beginning October 6th, the following campgrounds are open no services, no fees:
The following group campground is closed for the season:
- Kings River (at Wishon Reservoir)
Fire Restrictions are still in effect:
The days are getting shorter and nights are cooler but the threat of wildfires will not diminish until we receive
measurable rainfall in the area. Fire restrictions are in effect; no open flame fires are permitted below 6,000
feet, except in developed campgrounds.
