Cert Description |
A main objective of CCAC was to train enough new Community Emergency
Response Team (CERT) Train the Trainers (TTT) to meet the current and
expected needs of the OA and create a cache of instructor's that
would be available to assist the Cities/Town/County with CERT
Training within the Operational Area. A training sub committee was
established to meet this objective. This sub committee met on a
regular basis and held its first TTT Class of mostly first responders
on July 8-10, 2003, with a second class October 20-23, 2003,
conducted by the Governor's Office on Service and Volunteerism
(GOSERV) for a total of 70 students receiving Train the Trainer
certificates. However it should be noted that a few of the students
were from surrounding counties and may not be available to the OA.
Key Accomplishments and Best Practices
Currently there are eight (8) Cities/Towns that have established
Citizen Corps Councils/CERT Team programs with two additional cities
creating their programs.
Due to the recent Old/Grand Prix Fire Disasters the fourth quarter
report will not have a lot of hard numbers to report, these incidents
have consumed many staff hours that would have been otherwise spent on
the Grant Program.
During the recent Old/Grand Prix Fires one (1) of our cities used
their CERT trained members to patrol the Grand Prix Fire perimeter
within their city and the CERT members extinguished several spot
fires caused by falling ash.
Highlights of CERT Teams In Preparedness and Response Activities:
It is our plan to purchase the student CERT Emergency Response Kits:
Backpack, helmet, vest, chin strap and student/instructor manuals by
early January 2004, for a middle of February 2004 delivery. Once we
have the kits in place we will move forward with the CERT training at
the Community level. |
