340B & Safety Net Pharmacy

If you are interested in becoming a 340B provider, please call 1-866-PHARMTA to discuss pharmacy-related questions or issues, including Medicare prescription drug coverage. HRSA has established this service to provide a direct-to-provider resource and ensure that eligible pharmacies will receive assistance in a timely manner.

Extra Help Available for Those With Limited Incomes

Medicare beneficiaries with limited incomes and resources can receive extra help with their prescription drug costs. Those who qualify for the extra help will have reduced cost-sharing. For example, people with Medicare and Medicaid will have no premium or deductible and nominal co-pays of no more than $1 or $3 per prescription. An individual with an income less than $12,600 per year and limited assets will also have no premium or deductible and will pay $2 or $5 per prescription.

People with Medicare and Medicaid, people in a Medicare Savings Program, and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients will automatically qualify for this extra help with their prescription drug costs and do not need to apply. Others who do not automatically qualify, but have limited income and resources should apply for the extra help through the Social Security Administration (SSA) or their State Medicaid Office.

Catastrophic Drug Costs

Medicare prescription drug coverage protects beneficiaries who incur very high drug costs. When an individual pays more than $3,600 out-of pocket for drug costs, catastrophic coverage begins, and the beneficiary will only pay the greater of 5 percent coinsurance or $2 for generics and $5 for brand-name drugs.
