GOV. RITTER TO VISIT TECH COMPANIES AS PART OF ECONOMIC-DEVELOPMENT MISSION TO CALIFORNIA

Gov. Bill Ritter today embarked on a mid-week economic-development mission to California, with visits planned to several companies to promote Colorado's tech sector, business climate, educational offerings and overall quality of life.

"We'll be visiting several major corporations and letting them know about Colorado's robust tech sector, our New Energy Economy, our high-quality schools and the other innovations underway in Colorado," Gov. Ritter said.

"Some of these companies already have a presence in Colorado and some do not," Gov. Ritter added. "We want to leave all of them with a clear understanding that Colorado is open for business should they decide to expand their presence or launch new operations in our great state."

Gov. Ritter will be joined on the Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday morning trip to Silicon Valley and the San Jose area by Don Elliman, director of the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade.

They will be visiting companies such as Applied Materials, Cisco, eBay, Google, HP, Intel, Symantec and TechNet, a leading organization of high-tech CEOs and senior executives.

Colorado has the third-highest concentration of high-tech workers in the country, with 83 out of every 1,000 employees working in the high-tech industry. Colorado has 11,600 high-tech establishments, ranking it 10th in the country. The state has 157,200 tech workers, and has one of the most highly-educated workforces in the nation.
