AAM Governance

AAM is governed by a Board of Directors comprised of a chair, vice chair, and 18 members-at-large. All are museum professionals from institutions diverse in type, size, and geographic location.

The Board of Directors sets policy for the Association and is responsible for the prudent stewardship of the fiscal resources of the Association.

Call for Board Nominations

Nominees Sought for AAM 2009 Board of Directors Slate

The AAM Nominating Committee is seeking suggested nominees for six board members at-large for the 2009 – 2012 class of the AAM Board of Directors and a suggested nominee for board-vice chair 2009-2010. The committee is looking for suggested candidates with senior experience in and knowledge about museum management, governance, ethics, and demonstrated experience as a board member for association or other nonprofit organizations.

All nominees must be individual AAM members, in good standing in any member category except Independent Professionals or Press/Public. Nominees must be willing to assume all expenses of attending all board meetings.

To suggest a nominee, submit the required form (see below) to the nominating committee. Names of suggested nominees must arrive at the AAM offices no later than August 28, 2008. Send completed forms to the AAM Nominating Committee, 1575 Eye St. N.W., Suite 400, Washington, DC 20005.

The AAM board has confirmed a nominating committee for the 2009 slate of AAM officers and board members.  The committee members are:

- Ted Beattie, AAM Board member and President and CEO, John G. Shedd Aquarium, Chicago, IL.

- Betty Brewer, Council of SPCs, Chair, Museum Management Committee (MMC), and President and CEO, MINNETRISTA, Muncie, IN.

- Irene Hirano, AAM board immediate past chair and president and CEO, Japanese American National Museum, Los Angeles, CA.

- Juanita Moore, AAM board member and President and CEO, Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, Detroit, MI.

- David Porter, Council of Regional Associations, President, WMA and Executive Director, Historic Oregon City, Oregon City, OR.

- Kathy Dwyer Southern, AAM board vice-chair and President and CEO, National Children’s Museum, Washington, DC.

- Karen Witter, Council of Regional Associations, President, AMM and Associate Director Illinois State Museum, Springfield, IL.

The committee will serve until the November 2008 board meeting and will select nominees for the 2009 - 2012 AAM slate of candidates.
