Rake Sustainability Sense
With leaves beginning to fall, you can get a work out and help the environment by using a trusty yard rake, rather than gas-powered leaf blower to clear your lawn. Picking the hand rake over the blower for just one hour prevents the same amount of air pollution emitted from driving your car 350 miles! Click here for more energy saving tips.

About BayStat
BayStat is a powerful statewide tool designed to assess, coordinate and target Maryland’s Bay restoration programs, and to inform our citizens on progress. Each month Governor O’Malley meets with his BayStat team -- the Secretaries of the Maryland Departments of Agriculture, Environment, Natural Resources and Planning, scientists from the University of Maryland and other key staff.

These sessions provide a regular opportunity for the team to assess progress, evaluate what’s working and what’s not, and adapt our efforts accordingly. Learn more

White Tailed Deer Managed Deer Hunting Programs on Public Lands
DNR has implemented managed deer hunting programs in certain areas to more effectively manage white-tailed deer and reduce habitat damage. Special seasons have been established for these hunting programs in an effort to achieve the desired reductions. There is still time to apply for many of these hunts. Learn more about how the lottery system works, and what is required to participate.

Proposed Boating Regulation Changes
DNR and Maryland Boat Act Advisory Committee invite comments on requested changes to the state’s boating regulations. The Maryland Boat Act Advisory Committee will hold a series of five public meetings, beginning October 9th, as part of their information gathering process before they make a recommendation on the requested regulations to DNR’s Secretary. Citizens may also comment online, or via mail to the Boat Act Advisory Committee, 580 Taylor Ave E-4, Annapolis, Md. 21401.
