About the Office: The United States Attorney's Office for the Western District of North Carolina has jurisdiction and responsibility in a broad. range of areas, all of which involve representing the legal interests of the Federal government in the United States District Courts, Magistrate Court and in the Court of Appeals. The District consists of the 32 counties in the western third of North Carolina. The office employs over 70 persons, including 32 Assistant U.S. Attorneys who staff the Charlotte Headquarters Office and Asheville Branch Office. The United States Attorney, Gretchen C.F. Shappert, is currently seeking to hire one outstanding Attorney for the Asheville Office.

Responsibilities and Opportunity Offered: Employment with the U.S. Attorney's Office offers a unique and challenging experience for the highly motivated attorney. This attorney will be dedicated to Project Safe Childhood, the Department of Justice initiative that targets sexual exploitation crimes against children.

Qualifications: Required qualifications: Applicants must possess a J.D. degree, be an active member of the bar (any jurisdiction), and have at least 1 year post-J.D. experience.

Preferred qualifications: Hiring preferences include strong academics, significant litigation experience, criminal law experience, solid legal writing skills, and a demonstrated commitment to public service.

Travel: Occasional travel, both, within and outside the District may be required depending on the needs of particular cases.

Salary Information: Assistant United States Attorneys' pay is administratively determined based, in part, on the number years of professional attorney experience (at least 1-7 years preferred). The range of pay is $48,310 to $82,000 including locality pay where authorized.

Location: This position will be located in the Asheville Branch Office; Asheville, North Carolina. Asheville is the largest city in Western North Carolina and is located between the Blue Ridge and Great Smoky Mountains. The town has become the regional center for manufacturing, transportation, health care, banking, professional services and shopping.

Relocation Expenses: Relocation expenses will not be authorized.
