How would you like to be part of the largest amateur golf tournament in the world, the Buick Scramble?  Teams of 5 players from across the country, 4 amateurs and 1 professional, will be competing for the first place trophy.

Heart of Florida United Way's Volunteer Center coordinates the volunteer recruitment and management for the Buick Scramble National Championships, which will be in Orlando next month. Volunteer scorekeepers are needed for this event, which is being held at four courses in the Orlando area, Eagle Creek is in East Orlando, Ritz Grande Lakes is near Sea World, Mystic Dunes is near Celebration /Kissimmee and OCN - Orange County National in West Orlando / Winter Garden area.

Choose one or more shifts between Thursday, October 13 and Sunday, October 16, and receive numerous benefits.  Volunteers are needed for approximately 6 hours at a time, during either a morning or afternoon shift (or you can sign up for 2 shifts per day).  Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older, and be able to commit to the entire shift.  All volunteers receive a t-shirt and hat, free refreshments during your shift, and the opportunity for additional incentives the more shifts you volunteer!

Hurricane Katrina Response

Seminole Community Volunteer Program, Inc. is collecting school supplies* and new and gently worn backpacks and book bags for displaced students of Hurricane Katrina who will be enrolling in school in another area.  *Examples of school supplies may include: notebooks, pens, pencils, rulers, folders, crayons, markers, highlighters and filler paper.
In addition, we would like to include either a book or a stuffed animal or small comfort blanket for these children who have lost so much.   Please contact us for further information.

Many groups and individuals have expressed a desire to collect needed relief supplies for the victims of Hurricane Katrina in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. We thank you for  caring and your willingness to help. Citizens from these states will need your support in the coming days, weeks and months. These states are in the process of developing the necessary infrastructure to manage donated goods, it is very important that organizations engaged in collecting items follow some general guidelines to ensure donated items get where they are most needed.

How to Collect Relief Supplies
Collect only those items listed on the Items Needed List. (This list is updated daily)
Organize collection point(s) in the local community:

Provide a point of contact at collection point(s)
Provide a method of accepting the donated items
Provide security of donated items from theft and elements
Provide a plan to identify, sort, package and transport the donated items to Donations Warehouse(s)
Organizations accept responsibility for the collection, security, handling and transportation of donated items. Sorting and Packing Guidelines
Sort all like items together, i.e. cans of green beans in one box, insect repellent in one box, etc.
Limit the box weight to 30 pounds
Tape boxes securely
Label boxes, on two sides, with a description and quantity of contents
Place boxes on pallets and secure with shrink-wrap or straps
Provide detailed inventory of boxes and description of donated items
Volunteer Florida is happy to provide a label you can download and use to label boxes of donated goods. These labels are designed to print on Avery Standard Adhesive Labels #5164.
