Press Statement Sean McCormack, Spokesman Washington, DC September 2, 2008
Argentina’s Decision to Pay its Paris Club DebtThe United States welcomes President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner's announcement that the Argentine government intends to pay its debt to the Paris Club.
This decision represents an important first step in consolidating Argentina’s position in international markets. We hope that this important step will create opportunities for U.S. financial institutions and international investors to resume operations in Argentina. We look forward to working with the Government of Argentina as it takes steps to normalize financial relations with all external creditors and the international financial community.
At the same time, the U.S. Government reiterates its commitment to work closely with Argentine government authorities in strengthening and expanding the rich bilateral and multilateral agenda with Argentina.
