AZ Purimuffler or AZ Purifier Diesel Oxidation Catalyst | Highway Medium Heavy-duty, 4- cycle, model years 1991 - 2003 Cummins and Navistar/International engines originally manufactured without any after-treatment which are turbocharged or naturally aspirated, non-EGR engines‡ | 30 ppm | 40 | 40 | n/a | 70 |
† - Baseline assumes an unmodified engine running on fuel with less than 500 ppm sulfur.
‡ - See a list of applicable engines on the California Air Resources Board web site.
The following operating criteria must be met in order for appropriately retrofitted engines to achieve the above emissions reductions:
- The engine should be well maintained and not consume lubricating oil at a rate greater than that specified by the engine manufacturer.
- The engine must be operated with a fuel that contains a sulfur content of no more than 30 ppm maximum sulfur content to achieve the reductions listed above.

Highway, Heavy Heavy-Duty, Medium Heavy-Duty; Urban Bus; 4 cycle; model years 1994 - 2003; turbocharged or naturally aspirated; non-EGR engines | 15 | 90 | 75 | n/a | 85 |
† - Baseline assumes an unmodified engine running on regular 2D (<500 ppm sulfur) fuel.
The following operating criteria must be met in order for appropriately retrofitted engines to achieve the above emissions reductions:
- The engine exhaust temperature must be at least 280° C for at least 25% of the applicable duty cycle. (As there may be significant variations from application to application, ECS will review actual vehicle operating conditions and perform temperature data-logging prior to retrofitting a vehicle with their PM filter system to ensure compatibility.)
- The engine should be well maintained and not consume lubricating oil at a rate greater than that specified by the engine manufacturer.
- ECS installs a back-pressure monitor and malfunction indicator light on all vehicles equipped with a Purifilter.
- The engine must be operated with a fuel that contains a sulfur content of no more than 15 ppm to achieve the reductions listed above.

AZ Purimuffler or AZ Purifier Diesel Oxidation Catalyst with ECS closed crankcase ventilation (CCV) system | Highway, heavy-duty, 4 cycle, mechanically or electronically injected, turbocharged or naturally aspirated, originally manufactured from 1991 through 2004 model years which meet a 5 or 4 g/bhp-hr NOx standard with no aftertreatment and open crankcase ventilation engines | 30 | 40a | 60 | n/a | 75 |
† - Baseline assumes an unmodified engine running on fuel with sulfur content of 30 ppm or less.
a - Total PM reduction figures reflect reductions from both tailpipe and crankcase emissions.
- The engine exhaust temperature must be at least 150° C during the duty cycle.
- The 4500 and 6000 model filter cartridges must be replaced every 750 engine hours or every other oil change or when indicated by red filter service indicator, which ever occurs first. The 3500 and 3550 model filter cartridges must be replaced every oil change or when indicated by the red service indicator, whichever occurs first.
