Region 6 Clean School Bus Program
The goal of Clean School Bus USA is to reduce both children's exposure to diesel exhaust and the amount of air pollution created by diesel school buses.
Clean School Bus Program of Central Texas
Our area's school bus fleets represent a previously untapped opportunity to reduce vehicle emissions. Many of the state's non-attainment area school bus fleets consist of aging diesel-powered vehicles.
- These older buses emit clouds of harmful soot and smog-forming pollution-- fumes that can adversely impact the health of our children.
- Over one-third of our state's school bus fleets are more than a decade old and predate current air pollution standards.
Our Vision:
A cooperative partnership between local non-profit organizations, EPA, State Agencies, local elected officials, and corporate sponsors established to aid non-attainment area school districts in replacing/retrofitting their aging diesel school buses with new “clean fuel” buses.
Our Target:
Bus replacements/retrofits based on age of school bus fleets:
- Targeting pre-1993 model diesel buses for replacement.
- Targeting 1997 and newer model year diesel buses for retrofit.
Our Goals:
Reduce the health risk to our children. Reduce diesel emissions and air toxics.Clean School Bus Program of Central Texas was established as a non-profit grant program to aid local school districts replacing their older diesel school bus fleets with new “clean fuel” buses.
Each local Clean School Bus Program of Central Texas program is administered by an independent Steering Committee and is housed under the auspices of a local 501 (c)(3) non profit organization.
