There are two key questions for a course to qualify for TA:
TA is NOT authorized for:
To your unit ESO. ESO will verify information and then submit the form to CG Institute.
If you do not receive your TA Authorization form (CG-1560) within 14 days after your ESO submitted it to the CG Institute, you should contact your unit ESO.
The overriding principal is that you may not receive federal funds from two different sources for the same course(s). If you are eligible for Chapter 30 MGIB benefits, you may use CG TA & the MGIB Top-Up program for the same course(s). If you eligible for Chapter 31 MGIB benefits (reservists), you may not use both federally funded programs for the same course(s). There is no Top-Up program under Chapter 31.
If you are eligible for REAP (for mobilized reservists) & plan on using REAP, please provide supporting documentation (copy of signed mobilization orders and any amendments & copy of RELAD orders) along with your application for CG TA. This information will allow the CG Institute TA Dept to calculate how much TA is authorized.
Effective 1 Oct 2007, the Navy requires schools to invoice electronically using their WAWF (Wide Area Work Force) electronic invoicing system. If your school is not using this electronic invoicing system, please notify your ESO who can in turn contact the CG Institute for guidance.
Your final grade(s) for previous course(s) has not been received for posting. In order for the waiver to be removed you must submit your grades to the CG Institute. See How to Submit Final Grades for TA Authorized Courses for instructions. You will be locked out of the TA program for new courses if you are in a "waiver" status. It is very important that your final grade report is sent to CG Institute as soon as you receive the final grade report.
Individuals that receive a grade of "D" in an undergraduate course are not required to repay TA.
Note: A final grade of "D" is not transferable to all Institutions. Individuals whose academic average on the previous 12 semester hours is less than a B average in a graduate level course are required to repay TA.
The key is - "what status is the member upon the start of the course?"
Accreditation is a non-government process that gives public recognition to Institutions that meet certain published standards of academic and administrative quality. Accreditation helps assure the public about the quality of the Institution. Accrediting agencies are recognized by the U.S. Department of Education to accredit on-campus and distance learning programs found at the high school, associate, baccalaureate, masters and doctorate level. To confirm accreditation of a college, ESOs and members should contact either the Registrar or Dean of Admissions at the Institution. You may also check the U.S. Department of Education's website on accreditation.
No. TA is not authorized for "licenses", "certification", or "preparatory courses" for certification tests.
No. However, direct expenses for instruction such as laboratory, studio, shop fees, and consumable supplies may be included in the computation of tuition, provided these costs are based on specific fees or charges customarily levied by education Institutions, and are directly tied to the course for which the fee is required. Examples of prohibited fees are: application/entrance fee, student activity fee, record maintenance fee, non-consumable materials, parking fee.
TA is not authorized for flight time fees, flying lessons, or non-accredited aviation classes.
No. Courses previously completed, where a grade of "D" or better was earned cannot be reauthorized for TA.
Tuition cost for a course that has a non-passing grade must be repaid in full and posted in NCMIS database before TA can be authorized again for the same course.
The current TA Cap of $4500 pertains to all eligible TA members.
You should not pay up front for any courses. You should request TA prior to course start date. If for some reason you did pay up-front and would like to be reimbursed for tuition paid, you may request a waiver through the CG Institute for reimbursement of TA.
See How to Change Course Information on TA Authorization Form or How to Cancel TA Approved Course(s) for instructions.

Contact the billing department at your school. The school should resubmit the invoice via the WAWF electronic invoicing system.
The TA database will not allow us to process any more TA applications when there is an outstanding TA debt. Once money is collected and posted in the TA database against the course money was owed for, the one time waiver status is then removed and a member can receive TA at that time.
