The Carson River from the Carson City gage (10311000) to the Dayton gage (10311700) is a short reach of river flowing to the east of Carson City that includes a broad floodplain, the historic area of Empire, an incised canyon with Brunswick Canyon as a tributary, and floodplains near the town of Dayton. This reach of the Carson River was utilized extensively during the Comstock mining era in the processing of gold and silver ore. While short in river miles, this stretch of the river is experiencing rapid growth on or near the Carson River floodplain, and in Dayton, in close proximity to the Carson River.
