Q. Which OHP clients must pay a premium?

A. Most people who receive the OHP Standard package must pay a premium. The OHP Standard client does not pay premiums if he or she is a Native American or Alaskan native and a member of a federally recognized Indian tribe or eligible for benefits through Indian Health Services.

Clients with household income of 10 percent or less of the federal poverty level at the time of enrollment do not have premiums.

OHP Plus and OHP with Limited Drug do not have premiums. Children and pregnant women get the OHP Plus benefit package. People who are eligible for Medicare Part D get the OHP with Limited Drug package.

Some of your members/patients may come from households that are made up of people getting different benefit packages. Some may be enrolled in the OHP Plus benefit package. Others may be enrolled in the OHP Standard or OHP with Limited Drug benefit package.

Q. How much do OHP clients pay in premiums?

A. The premiums range from $9 to $20 per person per month. The amount is based on the household income and family size. The OHP Standard client will receive a premium bill each month telling him or her the premium amount. If the client has questions about how the premium was calculated, the client can talk to his or her worker.

Q. When are OHP Standard premiums due?

A. These premiums are due on the 20th of each month. We consider a premium paid when the OHP Billing Office gets it. We give OHP Standard clients a 30-day grace period to pay the premium. To avoid disqualification they must pay the full premium by the 20th of the month after the month in which it was due. A premium bill is mailed at the beginning of each month. The bill states the amount that must be paid and when the payment needs to be received. If a premium bill is not received, the OHP Standard client may call the OHP Billing Office at (503) 282-3001 or toll-free at 1(800) 922-7592.
