Biography

Dr. St. Lawrence came to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in 1996 as Chief for the Behavioral Interventions and Research Branch in the Division of STD Prevention. In late 2003, Dr. St. Lawrence stepped down from the role of Chief and continues as a Senior Biomedical Research Scientist in the branch she formerly directed. Prior to her appointment at the CDC, Dr. St. Lawrence was a Professor of Psychology at Jackson State University and Director of the Community Health Program in Jackson, Mississippi. She is a licensed clinical psychologist in Mississippi.

Dr. St. Lawrence has received numerous honors and recognitions, including the 2004 Distinguished Alumni Award from Nova University, the 2004 American Psychological Association’s Distinguished Leader in Psychology an AIDS award, twice awarded the Outstanding Research Achievement Award form the Mississippi Psychological Association, Research Achievement Award from National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education, Association for the Advancement of Behavior Therapy Research Award and served for four years on the NIMH Mental Health, AIDS, and Immunology Study Section at the National Institutes of Health. She is active in consultation and professional service.

Dr. St. Lawrence received a PhD in clinical psychology and Master of Science in psychology from Nova University. She received her undergraduate degree in English literature from Boston University College of Liberal Arts.
