Carson River below Lahontan Reservoir

Reach 4

From Fort Churchill to the Carson Sink

Reach 4 of the Carson River flows from the gage at Fort Churchill (10312000) into Lahontan Reservoir which stores water from both the Carson River as well as water imported from the Truckee River via the Truckee Canal. Inflow to Lahontan Reservoir from the Truckee Canal consists of water diverted at Derby Dam into the canal minus spills, seepage losses, and deliveries to the irrigation canals along the Truckee Canal. Outflow is controlled by the Bureau of Reclamation, whereby releases serve primarily agricultural interests downstream of the reservoir and inflow to the Stillwater Wildlife Refuge. There is one gage downstream of the city of Fallon (10312275) before the Carson River terminates in the Carson Sink.
