Housing and Urban Development Hurricane Recovery Assistance

Housing and Urban Development Resources and Information
This web page provides information on Housing and Urban Development (HUD) housing assistance to survivors of Hurricane Katrina, including local housing shelters, housing assistance, temporary housing, and information for public housing and Section 8 voucher recipients.

HUD Establishes Single Toll-Free Housing Hotline for Disaster Survivors
The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has established a single toll-free housing hotline, 1-888-297-8685, to assist the survivors of Hurricane Katrina. The number operates from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. CDT, seven days a week. This new, nationwide telephone number will provide callers expanded services and hours and the opportunity to speak with an actual individual about their housing needs.

HUD Fair Housing Booklet
This webpage links to a HUD booklet on consumer protections under the Fair Housing Act that prohibits discrimination in the sale, rental, and financing of housing, and in other housing-related transactions, based on race, color, national origin, disability, religion, sex, and familial status. The booklet contains information on additional protections for persons with disabilities.
