Key Dates
Release Date: September 27, 2004
The National Cancer Institute (NCI) is requesting applications from the current awardees of the Academic Public Private Partnership Program (AP4) planning grants. The AP4 initiative will provide support for the formation of new partnerships or significant expansions of existing partnerships among academia, industry, non-profit institutions, and government entities. The partnerships will conduct novel cancer therapeutic, prevention, diagnostic, and imaging intervention-directed research focused on underserved malignancies. The goal of the research will be to speed the translation of newly discovered cancer interventions to clinical trials.
In the year 2004, the NCI began a two-step application process with the funding of fourteen 1-year planning grants. Awardees will utilize the planning grant to study the feasibility of developing the pharmaceutical/non-profit/academic interaction necessary to establish and support a partnership, hold a meeting of potential partners, and select research projects for the potential AP4 Center.
The current AP4 planning grant awardees have contacted potential partners, held preliminary meetings and planned formal meetings, formed strategic working groups, formulated budgets, and selected key personnel to assist in the creation of potential AP4 Centers. Maintaining the approved two-step process for the AP4 Center initiative will facilitate and enhance the NCI's efforts to speed the translation of novel interventions for underserved malignancies from the laboratory to human clinical trials.
NCI will contact the current awardees directly regarding application
procedures and format. Written and telephone inquiries concerning this
