November 2005: Visit the OVC Web Forum on November 30th at 2:00 p.m. (eastern time) for a discussion on helping victims of mass violence. This session will be hosted by Angela McCown, founding Victim Services Director for the Texas Department of Public Safety. OVC Joins Grants.gov for FY 2006. This will affect applicants pursuing new discretionary grants, but not grantees applying for continuation funding or formula grants. OVC Director John W. Gillis announces FY 2006 funding considerations for improving crime victim services and supporting crime victims' rights. The OVC Program Priorities for FY 2006 are based on the tremendous response to OVC's call for concept papers and is contingent on available funding. New funding opportunity: 2006 National Crime Victims' Rights Week Community Awareness Projects selected for funding will be reimbursed up to $5,000 for public awareness activities. The Department of Justice has released new Attorney General guidelines for victim and witness assistance that outline requirements for working with federal crime victims and witnesses. August 2005:

OVC is now accepting concept papers on national scope training and technical assistance initiatives and demonstration projects. Selected concepts may be chosen to receive funding in FY 2006. Examples of previously supported initiatives are showcased in the OVC Focus On Series. Apply by July 1, 2005, 5 p.m. ET. OVC is offering one 24-month grant of $500,000 to an applicant who will assist OVC in planning and implementing the 10th National Indian Nations: Justice for Victims of Crime Conference. Gillis delivered a special message honoring these victims during the National Crime Victims' Rights week ceremony, April 7, 2005. OVC is offering one grant of up to $350,000 to develop videos and companion discussion guides on domestic violence and/or assault against older women. Gonzalez honored recipients of the 2005 National Crime Victims' Rights Week Awards during a special awards ceremony held April 8, 2005, in this Nation's capital. It is one of several Scheduled Events in Observance of National Crime Victims' Rights Week, April 10–16, 2005. The field of crime victim assistance recently lost two pioneering heroes, Betty Jane Spencer and Ed Stout, both honored with awards for their service to victims of crime. This site answers the call to action, "Get Help or Help Out," presented in the seven new OVC PSAs that began airing nationally in time for National Crime Victims' Rights Week (April 10–16, 2005). The Office for Victims of Crime (OVC) is pleased to announce the OVC State Crime Victim/Survivor Scholarship Program for eligible agencies and organizations sponsoring state conferences that focus on enhancing victim services. The program provides agencies with funds to offer scholarships that help eligible victims/survivors attend their conferences. OVC offers $35,000 grants to establish State Victim Assistance Academies (SVAAs) to educate and train professionals who routinely deal with crime victims. Register by April 14, 2005; Apply by May 5, 2005. OVC has allocated up to $3.0 million for Helping Outreach Programs to Expand II. This new grant program helps fund subawards to small faith-based and/or community-based organizations serving victims of crime through one pass- through organization. Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) will launch "21 Turns 21: Lifesaving Milestones" tour on April 13, 2005, during National Crime Victims' Rights Week. Join MADD at the National Mall. February 2005: In order to better serve victims in the area of consumer fraud, OVC is working with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to foster training, awareness, and coordinated outreach programs. OVC recently released the 2005 Resource Guide for National Crime Victims' Rights Week, April 10-16, 2005. The Guide was developed to help communities promote awareness of victim issues and comes complete with camera-ready art files on CD-ROM, posters, and sample PSAs. January 2005:
