I am writing to ask that you follow the recommendations of the PROWAC report. In many places where there is danger, there are already visual cues (flashing lights, walk signals, changing colors to denote changes in terrain, etc.). As a legally blind citizen, moving around our metropolitan area, I believe that making those signals appropriate for blind and visually impaired travellers is only common sense -- and morally responsible.

Almost every intersection now has wheelchair ramps in the sidewalk curbs. Do we need to add audible signalling at every intersection in the area? No, of course not. But there are many places where using a white cane is not sufficient to ensure safe travel. Please support us in being fully involved in everyday life, and being safe where normal caution is not sufficient.
