To whom it may concern:
I am writing in strong support of the recommendations of the PROWAC report. As a
blind resident of Minnesota who has been struck on two occasions by motorists, I
adamantly urge the implementation of audible traffic signals. For many people,
visual impairment is not the only issue. I for example have a condition called
Meneers syndrome which seriously compromises my ability to hear the direction
traffic is flowing. Factor this in with the sound of heavy winds, near by
construction and airplanes flying over head, and an already difficult street
crossing often becomes an impossibility. Audible traffic signals would greatly
enhance the safety of pedestrians in general and prevent many needless injuries
and deaths.
Kind Regards,
