Governor's Recommended Budget

Development of 2005-07 budget

Overview

Development of the DHS agency budget for the 2005-07 biennium includes assessing ongoing costs of existing programs and development of policy packages which support the agency's mission of helping people become more independent, healthy and safe. Policy Option Packages include proposals to improve programs, protect vulnerable populations, deliver more community-based services, and strengthen accountability. The department is also required by law to propose possible budget cuts, should reductions be necessary. The department's Agency Budget Request is due to the Governor by Sept. 1, 2004.

Public Input

The department hosted six public meetings in late July and early August 2004 seeking input on its Agency Request Budget for the 2005-07 biennium. Department leaders devoted the first half of these meetings to outlining the Agency Proposed Budget Request. During the second half participants were invited to offer their input.

Those unable to attend the public meetings were invited to email input to: dhs.budget-input@state.or.us
