Hello:
I am sending this message in regards to the issue of greater pedestrian
accessibility for blind persons in our cities. I live in Atlanta, GA and am a
very independent, visually impaired professional. I use local fixed bus route
transportation on a daily basis due to the flexibility and the many problems
that have been prevalent with the local Para-Transit system. I enjoy my
independence as a visually impaired person and am in support of better
pedestrian accessibility for the blind\visually impaired community. One of the
reasons that there is often a strain on Para-Transit services around the cities
of our country is because most visually impaired persons find it so very
difficult and dangerous to travel on fixed bus route systems.
Implementing a greater pedestrian accessibility for the visually impaired for
example at traffic lights, will reduce the strain on the stressed resources of
Para-Transit services. This may in turn require less funding if more visually
impaired or others with disabilities are comfortable with fixed route
independent travel. I sincerely hope that my voice has been heard as an active,
vital, independent, visually impaired professional. If you have any questions
concerning my comments in this message, I can be reached using the following

Thank you in advance for listening to my comments and I sincerely hope that
better efforts will be made for accommodating visually impaired pedestrians.
