My name is Sheila Styron, and I am a blind woman who travels extensively with a guide dog as my mobility assistant. I am in favor of making all streets safer environments for people with visual impairments, and there is no doubt in my mind that accessible pedestrian signals and detectable warnings are necessary to make this happen. Whether a blind person travels with a cane or a dog, anything that affords us the abbility to move with more assurance and security is essential in our efforts to achieve equality in a society where cars we cannot drive or see to stay clear of dominate our roads. These accommodations must be implemented in order for all of us to participate more fully in life's every day activities that non-disabled citizens simply take for granted.
