As a totally blind person, I wish to express my views in favor of audible traffic signals, especially for complex intersections. At the very least, why should we not get the same information from the environment as a sighted person would when activating a walk light? The audible signals now being designed are not as loud or obnoxious as some have been in the past, and they would only work if the button was pressed by a pedestrian.

Also, there are many blended curbs at intersections which are so flat that they can't be detected by a blind pedestrian. There have been times when traffic has been lighter than usual at an intersection, and I've walked right out into the street without realizing it. Thus the need for detectable warnings for intersections like this.
