This true-color Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) image from November 6, 2002, was captured by the Terra satellite. The image shows Texas (left) and Oklahoma, to its north. East of Oklahoma is Arkansas, and to its south, Louisiana. In Louisiana, the red River flows inform the northwest to join with the Mississippi before emptying into the Gulf of Mexico. Several concrete-colored patches mark the location of the region's largest cities. West of the Louisiana-Texas border, Houston spreads northeastward from the shores of orange-colored Galveston Bay. Several hundred kilometers east is San Antonio. In northern Texas, the Dallas metropolitan area is visible. In central Oklahoma, Oklahoma City can be seen, with Tulsa to the northeast. Fall’s burnished copper colors are stretching down from the north.
