I'm writing to express my views about the necessity for audible signals and detectible tactile warnings that will help blind and visually impaired persons safely navigate on our streets. Audible signals can enhance our travel, not hinder it. With our streets and highways being clogged by more and more vehicles, audible signals and detectable warnings can afford those of us who rely on canes, and/or guide dogs get about with ease and safety. Therefore, I support the American Council of the Blind's stand on this matter; I believe that just as I use parallel traffic, to make certain I can cross safely the audible signal would further guarantee my personal safety so that I could go about my business as any other citizen does every day. I urge you to consider carefully the need for these devices, that help hundreds of thousands of blind and visually impaired citizens in this great land. Thank you.
