The Bureau of Reclamation announced today that the Adaptive Management Work Group (AMWG) will meet September 9-10, 2008 in Flagstaff, Ariz., to address topics related to the Glen Canyon Dam Adaptive Management Program. The AMWG committee provides a forum for discussion of topics related to the operation of Glen Canyon Dam and ongoing monitoring of resource conditions downstream of the dam.

At the meeting, the AMWG will receive a variety of updates and briefings, including: preliminary observations from the 2008 High Flow Experiment; status reports on research efforts conducted by the Grand Canyon Monitoring and Research Center; biological opinion conservation measures; status report on the Humpback Chub Recovery Implementation Plan and translocation efforts; hydropower economics; and the status of ongoing litigation. The meeting is open to the public.

The AMWG is a Federal Advisory Committee appointed by the Secretary of the Interior with representatives from federal agencies, Colorado River basin states, Native American tribal governments, environmental groups, recreation interests and contractors for federal power from Glen Canyon Dam. The AMWG makes it possible for the Secretary to receive recommendations from these varied stakeholder interests on how to best protect downstream resources and balance river operations.

The meeting will be held at the Little America Hotel which is located at 2515 East Butler Avenue in Flagstaff, Arizona. The meeting will begin at 9:15 a.m. and conclude at 5:15 p.m., MST, on the first day and will run from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., MST, the second day.
