This image from May 5, 2002, shows more than a hundred fires (red dots) burning in Mexico and Central America.This image was captured by the Moderate-resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard the Terra satellite. In Mexico, the fires appear to be ocurring in greater concentration along the Pacific Coast.
