Workplace Changes for New Moms
On August 1st, 2008, Lt. Governor O'Brien joined working mothers and state legislators to celebrate the bill "Workplace Accomodations for Nursing Mothers," which makes breastfeeding at work easier and more convenient. Breastfeeding has shown great health benefits for both the child and the mother.
Traditional Native American Blessing at Pepsi Center
Lt. Gov. O'Brien, as chair of the Colorado Commission on Indian Affairs, took part in a traditional blessing of the Pepsi Center on Friday, July 25. The blessing included a Ute prayer and song and Kiowa drum songs.

"Big Thanks" for Education Agreement
On July 17, Lt. Gov. Barbara O'Brien was joined by Ft. Carson Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff Col. B. Shannon Davis to celebrate the activation of a interstate compact that will help unify education standards for students of military families. A large thank you card was presented by 7-year old Devin Harriman, 11-year old Andrew Hall and 11-year old Jason Harriman.
New Colorado Stamp Unveiled
Lt. Gov. Barbara O'Brien helped to unveil a new U.S. stamp featuring the Colorado flag, appropriately on Flag Day, June 14, 2008.
A Final Salute to the Last Colorado National Guard Vietnam MIA
Lt. Gov. Barbara O'Brien joined 80 Coloradans in Arlington National Cemetery April 3, 2008 to lay to rest the remains of Air Force Major Perry Jefferson, 39 years to the day he went missing in Vietnam. Friends and family gathered to say goodbye to the intelligence officer who disappeared in an aircraft over Vietnam while working as an aerial observer.
Children's Health
As a longtime advocate for children's health issues, Lt. Gov. O'Brien was on hand to celebrate legislation to extend health care access to as many as 50,000 more Colorado children.
2008 Ute Mountain Ute Annual Bear Dance
Every year, the Colorado Commission on Indian Affairs, chaired by Lt. Gov. Barbara O'Brien, meets once at the Ute Mountain Ute Reservation in Towaoc, Colorado, near the Four Corners Monument. The meeting usually coincides with the annual Bear Dance, a dance celebrating spring. Lt. Gov. O'Brien joined in the other women in asking the men to dance.
