Department of Corrections Hosts Recognition Ceremony for Staff and Inmates
The Department of Corrections (DOC) is hosting a recognition ceremony for the staff and inmates who participated in the winter flood relief. The Department has also invited the families of inmates to the recognition ceremony. The event will be held on Thursday, January 31, at the Salem Armory.
Staff-supervised inmate work crews assisted in flood relief in Vernonia, Mist, Astoria, and Fish Hawk Lake. These crews cleared debris, cut out drywall from the local high school and helped local citizens get rid of garbage from their homes.
"The mission of our Department is to reduce the risk of future criminal behavior," said Department of Corrections Director Max Williams. "Positive relationships with family are crucial to offenders successfully transitioning back into Oregon communities. We are pleased to have so many family members attend."
Governor Ted Kulongoski will attend the event along with Senator Betsy Johnson and Representative Brad Witt. The event will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Approximately 450 people will be in attendance.
