DOC inmate walks away

A minimum-custody Oregon Department of Corrections inmate walked away from a four-man work crew this afternoon in Portland.

Dustin Nyberg, 29, was with a crew from Columbia River Correctional Institution in north Portland. The crew was performing various clean-up duties at the Oregon Food Bank at 7900 NE 33rd, about a mile from the prison. He was last seen taking the trash out at 1:30 p.m.

Nyberg is a white male with brown hair and blue eyes. He is 5 foot 9 inches tall and weighs 195 pounds. He was last seen wearing blue jeans and blue T-shirt. All articles of clothing had the word inmate prominently stenciled on them in orange. He has several tattoos on his chest and both hands and arms.

Nyberg was incarcerated in June 2007 from Clackamas County for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. He was scheduled for release in February 2008.

Only minimum custody inmates within three years of release are eligible to join outside work crews. Columbia River Correctional Institution has 532 inmates, most of who participate in work and/or treatment programs.

As with all fugitives, Nyberg should be considered dangerous and not be approached. Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts should contact the Oregon State Police at 1-800-452-7888, the non-emergency number of their local police department, or the Oregon Department of Corrections Fugitive Apprehension Unit at 503-945-0975.
