Hostage Situation Resolved at Coffee Creek Correctional Facility
An inmate at Coffee Creek Correctional Facility (CCCF) took a Department of Corrections (DOC) employee hostage on Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at approximately 6:45 a.m. The incident was resolved at 8:15 a.m.
The DOC employee remained calm during the entire situation and was unharmed in the incident.
The inmate, John Anthony Brown, 40, was secured without injury by correctional officers and there was no other inmate involvement. Inmate Brown will be transported to another DOC facility. There have been no staff injuries reported.
Inmate Brown is serving a 24 month sentence for one count of Robbery III from Multnomah County. He has one detainer from the state of California for a parole violation. He has been at CCCF since May 16, 2008.
The male intake center is on full lock-down status. The female medium facility is on modified lock-down status. The female minimum facility remains in full operational status.
The Oregon State Police is the lead agency investigating the incident.
Visiting and normally scheduled court hearings will resume this afternoon. All other appointments are canceled.
