Minimum-custody inmate escapes from North Bend prison

Shortly after 4:30 this afternoon, an inmate escaped from the minimum-security Shutter Creek Correctional Institution near North Bend.

David Anthony Marrow, 29, is a white male with brown hair and brown eyes. He is 5'8" tall and weighs 175 lbs. He was last seen wearing a khaki shirt and blue jeans, both stenciled with the word "inmate" prominently in orange.

The inmate escaped from the minimum-security prison by stealing a staff member's car and ramming it through the fence adjacent to the prison's gate. The Oregon State Police are on-site at the prison to investigate.

Law enforcement officers statewide have been notified that the fugitive was last seen driving a 1999 red Jeep Cherokee, Oregon (tree) plates "GATITA." The front license plate is missing. The Jeep has a grey bug deflector, a University of Oregon decal with a duck on the bottom left side of the rear window, and a tow package. The trailer hitch has a cover with the word "Jeep."

Preliminary information indicates that he may be headed toward the Molalla area.

Citizens are cautioned that as with all fugitives, Marrow should be considered dangerous and not be approached. Anyone siting the Jeep should immediately notify their local law enforcement agency or call 9-1-1.

Others with information regarding Marrow's whereabouts should call the non-emergency number of their local law enforcement agency or the Oregon Department of Corrections Fugitive Apprehension Unit at 503-945-9030.

Marrow was incarcerated in August 2006 for second-degree assault from Clackamas County. His projected release date was December 2008.

The prison will remain on modified lockdown until the gate is repaired.
