Shippey Receives Statewide Corrections Award

The Oregon Department of Corrections honored outstanding employees at its annual awards ceremony in Salem last week. Among those recognized was Christina Marie Shippey of Coos County Community Corrections. Shippey received the Department of Corrections' 2006 Community Corrections Outstanding Service Award.

The Community Corrections Outstanding Service Award is presented to someone with an uncommon commitment to the profession of county community corrections, or who has preformed responsibilities in a manner above and beyond normal duties that greatly assisted or enhanced local county community corrections.

Shippey was recognized for her outstanding commitment to public safety. In presenting the award, DOC Chief of Community Corrections Scott Taylor said, "Tina serves as compact administrator for Coos County, and also is chair of the Statewide Occupational Office Network, which is committed to ensure that data is entered correctly and consistently in all counties. Additionally, she has continuously stepped up to take on more duties to ensure the community corrections office runs efficiently and smoothly.
Each day, she demonstrates her enthusiastic commitment to her work."

Shippey's nomination included an endorsement from Coos County Community Corrections Director Roy Wright: "Tina is successful because she is loyal, is helpful, is committed to the mission and to getting the job done right. Tina is an outstanding employee who brings people together to get the job done."

In commending the work of all statewide award recipients, Corrections Director Max Williams said, "We are here to honor the truly outstanding work done by the staff, contractors and volunteers of the Oregon Department of Corrections, some of the best in Oregon state government.

"By working together as individuals and as an agency, we are moving forward with initiatives and projects that help us to better accomplish our mission – to promote public safety by holding offenders accountable for their actions and reducing the risk of future criminal behavior."
