Martinez Receives Statewide Corrections Directors' Award

The Oregon Department of Corrections honored outstanding employees at its annual awards ceremony in Salem last week. Among those recognized was Bob Martinez, who works out at Two Rivers Correctional Institution in Umatilla. Martinez was selected by Corrections Director Max Williams and Deputy Director Mitch Morrow to receive a Directors' Award.

Martinez, an Acting Unit Team Manager, was recognized for his outstanding commitment to public safety and the Oregon Department of Corrections. In presenting the award, Deputy Director Morrow said, "Bob has a wealth of experience as a counselor at several institutions. Two years ago, he stepped up to take leadership in an important project to pilot a new management model for TRCI housing units.

"As manager under this model, Bob's multidisciplinary team looks at all aspects of managing a housing unit, combining security and program issues.

"Bob also took on responsibility to create a Counseling and Treatment Services step-down unit, improving transition back to general population housing for inmates with serious mental illness.
"Bob's willingness to tackle new challenges, pull together multidisciplinary teams, and command a quiet respect exemplifying DOC's spirit of collaboration."

In commending the work of all statewide award recipients, DOC Director Max Williams said, "We are here to honor the truly outstanding work done by the staff, contractors and volunteers of the Oregon Department of Corrections, some of the best in Oregon state government.

"By working together as individuals and as an agency, we are moving forward with initiatives and projects that help us to better accomplish our mission – to promote public safety by holding offenders accountable for their actions and reducing the risk of future criminal behavior."
