Penitentiary inmate dies following apparent suicide attempt
 
At approximately 9:00 p.m. Friday, September 15, Inmate Kenneth Daniel Baker was found hanging in his single-person disciplinary segregation cell at Oregon State Penitentiary. Penitentiary staff and paramedics resuscitated Inmate Baker. He was transported to Salem Hospital by ambulance where he remained in critical condition until his death Monday at approximately 6 p.m. with family members present.
 
Inmate Baker, 56, was admitted to prison from Lane County on August 5, 1999. He completed a sentence of 75 months for Sex Abuse I and was serving a consecutive sentence of 28 months for Attempted Rape I. Inmate Baker had a release date of July 23, 2007.
 
As with all deaths of state prisoners, the Oregon State Police are investigating.
