Hanley Receives Statewide Corrections Award
The Oregon Department of Corrections honored outstanding employees at its annual awards ceremony in Salem last week. Among those recognized was Correctional Officer Bill Hanley of Powder River Correctional Facility in Baker City. Hanley was selected as the Department of Corrections' 2006 Correctional Officer of the Year.
Hanley was recognized for his outstanding commitment to public safety and the Oregon Department of Corrections. In presenting the award, DOC Operations Division Administrator Michael Gower said, "According to his supervisors and peers, Bill goes out of his way to implement the Oregon Accountability Model, helping inmates to make positive changes in their lives.
"Bill is a team player. His communication and problem-solving skills are exceptional. Bill uses the Oregon Accountability Model as a tool to improve communication with inmates and to provide the necessary direction for them throughout their programming.
"Bill deeply cares about his professionalism and takes great pride in his work. He takes the initiative, looking for work that needs to be done and then doing it well."
In commending the work of all statewide award recipients, Corrections Director Max Williams said, "We are here to honor the truly outstanding work done by the staff, contractors and volunteers of the Oregon Department of Corrections, some of the best in Oregon state government.
"By working together as individuals and as an agency, we are moving forward with initiatives and projects that help us to better accomplish our mission – to promote public safety by holding offenders accountable for their actions and reducing the risk of future criminal behavior."
