Dennis Receives Statewide Corrections Directors' Award

The Oregon Department of Corrections honored outstanding employees at its annual awards ceremony in Salem last week. Among those recognized was Brenda Dennis of the Operations Division in Salem. Dennis was selected by Corrections Director Max Williams and Deputy Director Mitch Morrow to receive a Directors' Award.

Dennis was recognized for her outstanding commitment to public safety and the Oregon Department of Corrections. In presenting the award, Deputy Director Morrow said, "Brenda thought she had accepted a six-month out-of-class assignment to assist two managers with the final design and implementation of the new inmate classification system and automated work crew eligibility screening system. However, less than a week after she started, one of the managers retired.

“Doing the job of two people is never easy, especially with tight timeframes to accomplish a major change,”  Mr. Morrow said. “Brenda’s tireless dedication not only helped ensure a the successful roll-out of the new classification system, but also put the work crew eligibility screening system back on track and ready for implementation this July.”

In commending the work of all statewide award recipients, Corrections Director Max Williams said, "We are here to honor the truly outstanding work done by the staff, contractors and volunteers of the Oregon Department of Corrections, some of the best in Oregon state government.

"By working together as individuals and as an agency, we are moving forward with initiatives and projects that help us to better accomplish our mission – to promote public safety by holding offenders accountable for their actions and reducing the risk of future criminal behavior."
