At approximately 9:35 MST Wednesday evening, March 31, Inmate Claude F. Jenkins, 57, was found dead in his two-man cell at Snake River Correctional Institution in Ontario.
 
Mr. Jenkins´ body was discovered by his cell mate when he returned to the cell following evening activities. He immediately notified prison staff that Mr. Jenkins was unresponsive.
 
A prison physician pronounced the inmate dead at the scene, and the Oregon State Police were notified. Although there were no obvious signs of foul play, the State Police will investigate and an official cause of death will be determined by the Malheur County medical examiner.
 
Mr. Jenkins was admitted to prison in 1997 following conviction in Coos County for two counts of rape I,  two counts of sex abuse I and two counts of sodomy I. He had a release date in 2013.
