Walkaways

DOC News Release
For Release: January 15, 2003

Two inmates from Santiam Correctional Institution in Salem walked away from a minimum-custody work crew at 10:55 a.m., Wednesday, January 15. The crew was cleaning up a park near the intersection of Liberty and Columbia in North Salem.

The fugitives stole a 1982 grey Honda and abandoned it at a Fred Meyer parking lot in north Salem. A member of the public saw them leave Fred Meyer in a red Ford Ranger pick-up truck and notified authorities. That truck was later located but the fugitives were no longer in the area.

The inmates were last seen wearing Prison Blues jeans, blue long-sleeved chambray shirts, and orange vests.

The DOC Fugitive Apprehension Unit and law enforcement agencies are actively investigating.
