Captain Kevin J. Cavanaugh

Captain Cavanaugh is a native of Palmer, Massachusetts. He graduated from
the Coast Guard Academy with a degree in Mathematics, concentrating in
Computer Science. He is a 1992 graduate of the Naval Postgraduate School,
where he earned Masters Degrees in both Operations Research and Applied
Mathematics. He also holds an unlimited tonnage Master’s license.
He served as Deck Watch Officer aboard USCGC ACTIVE out of New Castle, NH.
He served as Weapons Officer in USCGC CHASE and in USCGC HAMILTON out of
Boston, Massachusetts, and as Operations Officer in USCGC HAMILTON. He
served as Executive Officer in USCGC CHASE out of San Pedro, California, and
as Commanding Officer of USCGC TAHOMA out of New Bedford, Massachusetts.
Tours ashore include: Commanding Officer of LORAN Station Kargaburun,
Turkey, Assistant Director of Auxiliary (detached) in the First Coast Guard
District, Project Manager for the Law Enforcement Simulation project and the
Deepwater Mission Analysis project in the Systems Analysis Branch at the
Coast Guard Research and Development Center, and Chief of the Planning and
Budget staff in the First District. Afterwards, he was chief of the
Enforcement Branch for Coast Guard Pacific Area. Captain Cavanaugh’s most
recent assignment was chief of the Planning and Force Readiness division for
the Eleventh Coast Guard District, which is responsible for Coast Guard
operations in California, Nevada, Arizona and Utah and offshore as far south
as Peru.
Captain Cavanaugh has been awarded 4 Meritorious Service Medals, a Coast
Guard Commendation Medal, 2 Coast Guard Achievement Medals and various other
personal, campaign and unit awards.
