FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- Brooklyn, NY -- February 12, 2007 -- Vintage Food Corp., 4-19th Street, Bldg 2B, Brooklyn, NY 11232 is recalling ELMAS BRAND APRICOTS because it may contain undeclared sulfites. People who have severe sensitivity to sulfites run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume this product.
The recalled ELMAS BRAND APRICOTS are packed in 250g and 400g, styrofoam packages with the code best before: 31/12/2007 were sold in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.
The recall was initiated after routine sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Food Inspectors and subsequent analysis of the product by Food Laboratory personnel revealed the presence of sulfites in packages of ELMAS BRAND APRICOTS which did not declare sulfites on the label. The consumption of 10 milligrams of sulfites per serving has been reported to elicit severe reactions in some asthmatics. Anaphylactic shock could occur in certain sulfite sensitive individuals upon ingesting 10 milligrams or more of sulfites.
No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.
