Consumer Alert: Undeclared Eggs in Ranch Peppercorn Cheese Curd

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- November 30, 2007 -- New York State Agriculture Commissioner Patrick Hooker alerted consumers today that Heuvelton Community Irrevocable Trust d/b/a Heritage Cheese, 4775 St. Rt. 812, Heuvelton, NY 13654 is recalling Heritage Cheese Ranch Peppercorn Cheese Curd due to undeclared eggs. People who have allergies to eggs may run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume this product.

The cheese curd is sold in 8 oz. and 16oz. packages. The product could have any sell by date up to and including December 19, 2007. The recalled cheese curd was sold in upstate New York.

The problem was discovered during a routine inspection by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Milk Control and Dairy Services Inspectors which revealed the presence of eggs in product packages and did not declare an egg ingredient on the label.

No illnesses have been reported to date to this Department in connection with the recall. Consumers who have purchased the affected Heritage Cheese Ranch Peppercorn Cheese Curd should return them to the place of purchase.
