Summary: The aim of this study is to launch a Louisiana State University (LSU) Health Services Research Program to increase applied health services research in the State. The program will be a partnership between the LSU medical school and the LSU health care services unit (that delivers health care to approximately 1 million residents, particularly the uninsured and underinsured). Participation of children will be addressed on a project-by-project basis in this program.

Summary: The aims of this study include building upon infrastructure and center development to strengthen and sustain the LSU Health Services to approximately 1 million people in Louisiana during Phase I, while continuing efforts to build and expand collaborative partnership linkages between the LSU School of Public Health, Tulane University, the Harvard Pediatric Research Program, the Pennington Research Center, and LSU A&M for a successful health services research network. The project will also focus on developing specific "research themes" to improve care and outcomes in a sustainable health services research infrastructure for the Louisiana population, including children. The majority of patients taking part in the study are low-income, uninsured or Medicaid, and African-Americans.

Summary: The goal of this conference, to be held in March 2007, is to assess the barriers to conducting and implementing the results of systematic reviews in order to increase the impact of systematic reviews in maternal and neonatal health. The conference has three objectives; the first being to identify the administrative and technical support needs for reviewers involved in the preparation of systematic reviews, including the development of protocols and the identifcation of relevant topics on maternal and neonatal issues for the Americas. The second objective is to identify new means of encouraging and assisting current reviewers involved with the process of updating their reviews on a regular basis. The final objective is to identify the best strategies for disseminating existing evidence from systematic reviews to health care professionals, stakeholders, policymakers, and health researchers—while at the same time encouraging the use of evidence-based practices in the Americas.

Summary: This study will (1) develop an implementation plan, including organizational, governance and financial components; and (2) create a medication management system with an electronic note writing capability. Summary: This new network created from pediatric practices worked together to study the health and development of vulnerable children who previously received care in the Louisiana State University's neonatal intensive care unit. The network will use standardized methods of information management and develop a common database adequate to support research.
