| Motorcycle Instruction Permit |
|
A motorcycle instruction permit authorizes the operation of any motorcycle during daylight hours when under the supervision of a person who is at least 21 years of age, who has a valid license with a motorcycle endorsement, who is riding a separate motorcycle, and is in visual contact with the permit holder.
Qualify/Apply
You must apply in person at a DMV office, and you must:
NOTE: There is no fee for the motorcycle endorsement knowledge test.
Expiration/Renewal
A motorcycle instruction permit is valid for one year from the date of issuance. A motorcycle instruction permit may be renewed. Renewing the motorcycle instruction permit does not extend the validity of the current permit. If you renew prior to the expiration date of the current permit, it will be valid for one year from the issuance date. If your permit has been expired for more than one year you will be required to successfully complete the knowledge and vision tests and pay all applicable fees.

| Motorcycle Endorsement |
|
A motorcycle endorsement authorizes the operation of any size motorcycle.
Qualify/Apply
You must apply in person at a DMV office, and you must:
- Be an Oregon resident of or domiciled in Oregon;
- Be at least 16 years of age;
- Have a valid Oregon driver license (class C or higher);
- Have no suspended, canceled, revoked, or otherwise withdrawn driving privileges in Oregon or any other state;
- Submit a completed Driver License/ID Card Application. If you answer “yes” to any of the medical questions on the application, you are not eligible for a motorcycle endorsement. DMV will not be able to issue you an endorsement until you have established that your medical condition does not affect your ability to drive safely. To do so, DMV may ask you to provide additional medical information and/or pass additional DMV tests;
- Under 18: Obtain your biological or adoptive parent or legal guardian's signature on your application, unless you are married or an emancipated minor;
- Provide proof of your full legal name;
- Provide proof of your legal presence in the U.S., identity and date of birth;
- Provide proof of your Social Security Number (SSN);
- Provide proof of your Oregon residence address;
- Under 21: You must complete a TEAM OREGON Basic Rider Training (BRT) Course. A BRT course completion card, dated within the last 2 years, waives both the motorcycle endorsement knowledge test and the on-cycle drive test;
- Over 21: Pass a motorcycle endorsement knowledge test and pass an on-cycle drive test (be sure to bring proof of insurance to your drive test); NOTE: If you have a valid, motorcycle-endorsed license issued by a U.S. State, you may not be required to take the on-cycle drive test.
- Test Waivers for TEAM OREGON Courses:
- Pass a vision screening test as defined in OAR 735-062-0050; and
- Pay the applicable issuance fees.
NOTE: There is no fee for the motorcycle endorsement knowledge or drive test.
